Pucker Up For A 'Blue Lip Selfie' And Support Mouth Cancer Action Month

November is Mouth Cancer Action Month and this year's charity campaign aims to raise awareness of mouth cancer and how early detection can save thousands of lives.

Lincolnshire Community Health Services NHS Trust (LCHS) will be showing their support by holding information stalls at different locations throughout the county.

Astonishingly, mouth cancer takes more lives in the UK than testicular and cervical cancer combined, with one in seven of us knowing someone suffering from the disease.

Gina Hargrave, Oral Health Promoter at LCHS, said: "It is so important that we help to get the message out there. Mouth cancer can affect anyone, so it is vital that we remind people to attend regular check-ups at the dentist. The earlier it is detected, the higher the chance of survival."

As part of the campaign, people are being asked to share their own 'blue lip selfie' as a visual sign of support. The pictures can then be uploaded to social media sites using the hashtag #bluelipselfie

Gina added: "As part of our promotional stands, we will be giving the public the chance to do their own selfie. It's a fun way of getting people involved and we hope that by sharing it on our  Twitter page, we will help towards increasing awareness."

Stands will be held at:

  • Pilgrim Hospital, Boston, on November 5, 10am until 2pm
  • Johnson Community Hospital, Spalding, November 10, 10am until 2pm
  • John Coupland Hospital, Gainsborough, November 12, 10am until 2pm.

Further venues will be announced via the dedicated Twitter page @oralhealthsmile
