Big Breakfast on the Menu to Support Respiratory Patients
Posted on: 12th November 2014
Visitors to Gainsborough's John Coupland Hospital are being invited to tuck into a 'Big Breakfast' on Thursday, November 20, for a good cause.
From 9am-11am, the hospital's dining room will be open to all and staff will be donating a percentage of the breakfast sales to the British Lung Foundation (BLF).
The event has been organised by the Pulmonary Rehabilitation team from Lincolnshire Community Health Services NHS Trust (LCHS) as part of a campaign to support National COPD Day on November 19 and to promote the BLF's work to support those with lung disease.
Throughout the morning, the team will also be on-hand in the hospital's Trentside Rehabilitation Unit selling raffle tickets and answering questions from patients and the public on a range of topics, including support courses and nutrition and hydration. They will be joined by members of the local Breathe Easy support group, the Phoenix Stop Smoking Service, the Lincolnshire Wellbeing Service and the Health Trainers.
Laura Hollingshead, Respiratory Physiotherapist at LCHS, said: "While there is no cure for COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease), our rehabilitation classes run across Lincolnshire to help give the support and education patients need to be able to manage the condition with their daily routines. The Big Breakfast is a great way for everyone to learn about respiratory disease and how the British Lung Foundation can provide support, while raising much-needed funds for their important work."
Ruth Harper, Joint Chairman of the Breathe Easy Gainsborough, added: "Breathe Easy Gainsborough is the local support group for the British Lung Foundation, supporting people affected by lung disease, offering assistance and advice, as well as running a varied programme of events. We also run various fundraising occasions with the aim of supporting the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Team at John Coupland Hospital and providing much-needed equipment to aid the pulmonary rehabilitation sessions that run during the year. We will be assisting the department with their Big Breakfast venture, with all funds going to the British Lung Foundation."
Breathe Easy Gainsborough meets on the second Monday of each month at Pillared House, Primrose Street, from 2.30pm-4.30pm.
