Calls For Volunteers In Spilsby

Could you spare a little time every week to help others in your community?

If so, Spilsby’s community nursing team would like to hear from you.

The team is looking for more volunteers to support the work they do in community clinics and in patients’ homes.

Volunteers could help in a variety of roles, including welcoming patients to clinics, helping to complete forms, assisting nurses with simple clinical tasks, and visiting patients’ homes as part of a befriending service to be a friendly face and someone to talk to.

Rachel Ellerby has been volunteering weekly at Grace Swan Clinic since January after meeting the team while accompanying her mother Joyce on appointments.

Rachel (54), of Spilsby, said: “I wanted to volunteer to give something back to the community, but I have also found it really rewarding in helping to overcome mental health issues. It has been my saviour and helped to give some structure in my life to get up and out of the door.

“I have been helping at the leg clinics. It’s nice to join the team and support the continuity of the care they give by being a friendly face. I have grown up in Spilsby and with the Grace Swan Clinic and believe it should be the hub of our village. I hope my contributions can help the services here to fulfil their potential to support our community.”

Claire Thornalley, Nursing Clinical Team Leader for Lincolnshire Community Health Services NHS Trust, said: “We are very proud of nursing services in Spilsby and the wonderful feedback we get from the patients we see. It truly makes us feel an integral part of the community and we have identified opportunities where volunteers could make a real difference in helping our services improve further. In particular, we would like volunteers to take part in a befriending service, which would support those who do not need nursing care but would greatly benefit from regular visits and a friendly face.”
