Cardiac Rehabilitation Group Receives Donation From Grateful Patient

A grateful patient who quit smoking as part of his recovery has used the money he saved to make a donation to a specialist cardiac rehabilitation group.

Terry Cordrey bought two new heart rate monitors for the cardiac rehabilitation group at County Hospital, Louth, after successfully completing its 12-week programme.

The group, which is run by specialist nurses and rehabilitation assistants from Lincolnshire Community Health Services NHS Trust (LCHS), offers a range of support including advice on exercise, healthy eating and education. The group is also supported by a qualified exercise instructor.

Terry, of Caistor, was offered a referral after undergoing triple heart bypass in June 2013. He said: "I was saving about £100 a week from giving up cigars. It was a lot of money and I wanted to do something to help. One thing that keeps you coming back is the staff make you feel so welcome and nothing is too much trouble."

He added: "If you do nothing else while you're recovering from cardiac problems, make sure you think about cardiac rehabilitation. It's about recovering physically and mentally, and getting back on the right track."

Alison Bunn, Cardiac Rehabilitation Nurse Specialist at LCHS, said: "We'd like to thank Terry for his kind donation. We use heart rate monitors every week to make sure patients are working within their own safe, individual limits when they are exercising. The group sessions help give patients the confidence to exercise after a cardiac event and return to a normal life."
