'Fab' work to be showcased during academy visit

NHS staff from across Lincolnshire will be showcasing what makes them 'fab' in a special visit by founding members of the national Academy of Fabulous NHS Stuff next week.

The Lincolnshire Heart Centre, the bereavement centre and the children's wards at Lincoln County Hospital, along with John Coupland Hospital in Gainsborough, are all on the itinerary for Roy Lilley, Dr Terri Porrett and pets as therapy (PAT) dog Alfie on Wednesday, October 4.

The visit is part of a tour leading up to celebrations for Fab Change Week, which takes place from November 13-17.

The week encourages teams and individuals to make a pledge, big or small, to help make a difference within the NHS. Hand-in-hand with the philosophy of the web-based Academy of Fabulous NHS Stuff, the week will help highlight and share best practice, service improvements, kindness and compassion.

Sharon Kidd, Fab Ambassador at United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust, said: "The Fab ambassadors in Lincolnshire are really excited to welcome Roy Lilley and Dr Terri Porrett next week as part of the national Fab Change Week tour. This will be an excellent opportunity to introduce the staff to the Academy of Fab Stuff website and Fab Change Week and is an excellent opportunity for organisations to showcase nationally some of our amazing projects."

Roy will have the honour of selecting a prize draw winner while in Lincoln in the morning, which includes all of ULHT's Fab pledges made between September 25 and October 3.

In the afternoon, Roy, Terri and Alfie will be heading over to Gainsborough to talk about the introduction of neighbourhood teams in the community and John Coupland Hospital. The visit will be rounded off with afternoon tea with patients on Scotter Ward.

Donna Phillips, Fab Ambassador for Lincolnshire Community Health Services NHS Trust, said: "We are very grateful to Roy and Terri for coming to visit and giving us another opportunity to share the fantastic work which is going on in Lincolnshire. In particular, this visit gives us chance to highlight the positive partnership working with health, care and third sector organisations, who are working differently to improve services and experiences for patients."

She added: "The team on Scotter Ward at John Coupland Hospital are also looking forward to enjoying afternoon tea, especially with special guest Alfie."
