A fully booked Parkinson’s information event in Lincolnshire held in collaboration with Parkinson’s UK and Lincolnshire Community Health Services NHS Trust’s (LCHS’s) Parkinson's Team provided people with Parkinson’s and their loved ones information and advice about support available to them locally.
The free event, hosted at The Petwood Hotel, Woodhall Spa, welcomed more than 60 attendees and included talks from healthcare professionals, question and answer sessions, physical activity tasters, and showcased local support and involvement opportunities.
Representatives from the Community Parkinson's Team presented information on Parkinson's and the nursing team, and hosted a Q&A session.
Sarah Sykes shared their Parkinson’s journey in a lived experience session, and stalls showcased local Parkinson’s groups, activities and volunteering, alongside a spotlight on Parkinson’s UK’s Get It On Time medication campaign.
The day also featured physical activity taster sessions with hosts including Dance for Parkinson’s and Active Together.
One attendee told Parkinson’s UK: "The advice and support gave us a different perspective - the reality really - and let us know we are not alone. The dance group led by Rebecca in the afternoon was fab and lifted our spirits, there was lots of laughter!”
Eleanor Halford, Area Development Manager, Parkinson’s UK, said: “A big thank you goes to the LCHS’s Parkinson's Team and all of the brilliant exhibitors, speakers, volunteers, and attendees who helped make the day a success.
“We know getting the right information and support at the right time can make all the difference for people affected by Parkinson’s, so I’m pleased our Lincolnshire event proved to be popular and we could showcase local support and activities, share real-life stories, and gather feedback.
“I’d encourage anyone locally affected by Parkinson’s and looking for support to get in touch with us at Parkinson’s UK and see how our local advisors, information resources, and local groups could help them.”
Around 153,000 people in the UK are diagnosed with Parkinson’s, including around 2,080 people across Lincolnshire.
Parkinson's UK is the UK's leading charity supporting those with the condition. Its mission is to find a cure and improve life for everyone affected by Parkinson's through pioneering research, information, support and campaigning.
