NHS trust thanks volunteers during volunteers’ week
Posted on: 1st June 2022
This week is the 37th annual Volunteers’ Week. To mark the occasion, Lincolnshire Community Health Services NHS Trust (LCHS) is celebrating the contribution and dedication of its volunteers both behind the scenes and on the frontline.
Our volunteers carry out a variety of duties, from greeting patients to offering emotional support and a friendly face to both patients and staff.
Sally Darley, Volunteering Services Manager, said: “Our volunteers really are amazing, dedicated individuals who have a real impact on the services that we deliver and most importantly, our patients. We are so grateful to every one of our volunteers who take the time to help and support our services and give something back to the community.”
During the week, the trust will be hosting a virtual celebration event for all our volunteers on Microsoft Teams. Every one of our volunteers will receive a thank you card from the trust which was designed by a member of the public. The trust will also be showcasing some of our fantastic volunteer’s stories and explaining how they help our teams via our social media.
Sam Meenakumar, who volunteers in one of Lincolnshire Urgent Treatment Centres, said: “I wanted to volunteer for numerous different reasons. I am a university student and this opportunity has allowed me to meet people more local to the area.
“It is a very rewarding role as you speak to lovely people who genuinely appreciate your support. You get to meet new people, both coming in and working, and it also gives me first hand exposure to the healthcare sector, allowing me to understand what the day-to-day routine is like while helping me develop better social skills. I've developed and gained many transferable skills such as improved confidence, a positive attitude as well as compassion and sympathy.”
The NHS in Lincolnshire is currently recruiting volunteers in many services including communications, urgent care, pulmonary rehab, and community hospitals. There are many volunteering opportunities in community services and community hospitals and you can view all of these on LCHS website.
