Rammie gets the green light to become a fully qualified therapy dog

Posted on: 6th April 2023

The team at Scarborough Ward in Skegness Hospital, which is run by Lincolnshire Community Health Services NHS Trust (LCHS), wanted to raise vital funds to pay for a therapy dog to help rehabilitation and end of life care for patients. So, they called upon Lincolnshire NHS Charity to support fundraising for a new four-legged team member.

In August 2021, Labrador puppy, Rammie, joined the team at Skegness Hospital and has been training since to become a qualified therapy dog.

As Rammie is approaching her second birthday, she received the best early birthday present. She has successfully passed all her training and is now a fully qualified therapy dog.

Rammie will now be able to put her training into practice and will make an enormous difference to lives of patients on the ward and their families.

Vicky Smith is a Staff Nurse and ‘carer’ of Rammie when she is not helping on the ward. Vicky said: “We are over the moon that Rammie has become a fully qualified therapy dog, she is such a fantastic asset to the team. I am so proud of her, she has come such a long way from being a very energetic puppy!

“Everyone who comes across Rammie, adores her, I can’t wait to see Rammie help our patients and their loved ones on the ward.

“Thank you to everyone for supporting and donating towards this great cause, this would not have been possible without the generous contributions from the Lincolnshire public, our patients, their families and LCHS staff”.

The team and the Lincolnshire NHS Charity are continuing to raise money to pay for Rammie’s maintenance and long-term care while she’s working on the ward. If you would like to donate, please visit the Just Giving page.
