Senior Accountant Taking on 100 Mile Bike Ride
Posted on: 22nd July 2016
A senior accountant at Lincolnshire Community Health Services NHS Trust is hopping on his bike for a 100 mile charity ride.
Mark Perrin is taking part in the Prudential Ride event which will take him from London to Surrey in the hope of raising as much money as possible for the charity WellChild.
On Sunday, July 31, Mark, with three other members of the 'Folkingham Flyers' bike group, will take on the 6 hour challenge, beginning at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, London, through the stunning Surrey countryside, and finishing on The Mall in central London.
Along the route, made famous by cyclists at the 2012 Olympics, there will be leg testing climbs and challenging terrain.
Mark has always had a casual interest in cycling, but since joining the group last year, his interest has peaked.
Speaking about the challenge, Mark said: "I currently cycle at least 3 times a week, averaging 100 miles, and have really noticed the health and wellbeing benefits."
"Not long after I joined the group, 3 members, also known as the 'Middle-Aged Men in Lycra', invited me to take part in Ride London-Surrey. I thought it would be a great opportunity to raise money and awareness for the brilliant work that WellChild does, whilst also setting myself a challenge."
"We've trained through harsh conditions; the bitter Winter cold and torrential Summer showers, and have clocked up 3700 miles of training. Ifeel ready for race day now; although 100 miles still feels like a long way to be sat on a saddle for."
Mark is aiming to raise £450, and would gratefully receive any donation, large or small.
