The skies across the county were filled with butterflies in a celebration of life

The Butterfly Hospice hosted its annual butterfly release on Sunday, July 3. Releases were held across the county in Boston, Spalding and Skegness with 700 butterflies released over the three venues.

The first release took place at Westwood Lakes in Boston, followed by The Crown Hotel in Skegness before the day finished at Springfield's Festival Gardens in Spalding. 

Laura Slayven, Fundraising Manager at the Hospice said: "This very special event gave us an opportunity to come together and release hundreds of butterflies in a 'celebration of life' or in memory of your loved one.

"Thank you to Westwood Lakes who continue to support us by giving access to such beautiful surroundings to release the butterflies. Also to The Crown Hotel, Skegness and Springfields's Festival Gardens, Spalding for offering their wonderful facilities.

Dick Edgington the Mayor of Skegness and Steve Woodliffe the Mayor of Boston attended their town's respected releases. Local schools also took part in the entertainment in Spalding and Skegness.

Working in partnership with Lincolnshire Community Health Services NHS Trust (LCHS) and The Butterfly Hospice Trust, the hospice provides palliative, end of life and respite care in an informal and clinically based environment for adults with life-limiting illness.

When the Hospice opened it gave local people and families access and choice for palliative care close to their home. The hospice understands how much this means to people and is keen to raise awareness that this valuable service exists. The staff and volunteer teams work closely with the clinical team to provide the care people need.
