Course overview
A half day course to include anatomy & physiology of lower bowel dysfunction, bowel assessment, digital rectal examination, digitation and digital removal of faeces. Practical session with manikin as well as bowel management regimes and updates.
Course Duration
One day programme from 9:30am to 13:00
Objectives
- Discussion of skills for Health Continence Care Suite in respect to assessment and care
- planning
- Overview of basic anatomy and physiology of the lower gastrointestinal tract,
- Causes of constipation and definition of
- neuropathic bowel dysfunction
- Revisit legal and professional aspects of
- bowel care
- Process of nursing assessment in respect to lower bowel dysfunction ,
- Discussion of conservative treatments and appropriate nursing care plans, including laxative treatments, rectal medication, rectal irrigation, biofeedback and pelvic floor rehabilitation.
- Understand bowel emptying techniques
- Practical with Manikin session – Digital Rectal examination, Digital Rectal Stimulation and Digital Rectal Removal of Faeces
- Identification of anal conditions
